Glass and crystal as color ornaments of the house (Part 2)

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Some aesthetes-Japanese, arranging tea ceremony, pour tea in plastic glasses. That they emphasize the purpose of a ceremony: to comprehend a charm of poor simplicity. We, covering a table and inviting visitors, reach the opposite purposes: to please friends with comfort of luxury accessible to us. For this reason it is necessary to forget or slightly to change the popular statement « It doesn’t matter for me from what glass, the main thing is with whom ». The question «how to drink» demands a serious preparation.
What can we advise? Gourmets and judges of good wine should pay attention to simple glasses, correctly having chosen their form. The leg should be convenient, and a bowl greater so that the wine bouquet could reveal in a glass sphere. Especially interested can study the production of the recognized Austrian firm Riedel which are letting out special degustation glasses. The firm carries out complex research works, has own laboratory, and as a result the unique correct vessels for Bordeaux, Burgundia are introduced to the consumers.
For those who do not mark so highly or just has no opportunity to drink the Burgundia collection in the evenings, we advise to collect on a table color utensils - from glass to crystal (it at clinking glasses the sound is much more melodious). Thus you will get in the fashionable jet planned by a well-known glass blowers -Baccarat and Saint-Louis: these respectable firms are known first of all for bright crystal glasses: addition of the oxidized metals, such as copper, cobalt, chrome, manganese, gives the tremendous color palette strengthened by a sunlight, passing through crystal. The most popular services of Baccarat and Saint-Louis are the color services that are also quite often thought up by modern designers who are willingly invited to the well-known factories: for example, Olivier Ganer worked for Saint-Louis, and the last Baccarat collection was thought out by Phillip Stark.

Glass and crystal as color ornaments of the house

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Perhaps, there is no of more demonstrative subject in the house, than a flower vase. It is possible to define so much if not all on this simple vessel: a taste of the mistress, her predilections, her following to the fashion and, even, her character. The fashion on vases varies promptly and considerably: it can be in honor a heavy bohemia crystal, carved, with an engraving, or an ordinary glass, multi-colored, pleasing an eye with masterful techniques.
There was a time when everyone without the exception took a great interest in vessels from simple transparent glass, reminding chemical flasks by its forms. Those who several years ago has bought these «pharmaceutical utensils» in lots, regret a little about it: you will never put an empty flask on a visible place, it cant bring any decor into the interior, but as how these vases-bottles help when there is a bouquet in the house! The ascetic, but extremely functional form of these vases shades perfectly any flowers - from a rose up to a dandelion.
Most popular of color glass recently can be named as muran glass. Speckled or “agate” when preparation of the future vessel is run in a color crumb, “filigree” (a pattern from the glass strings, laid out lengthways of the walls of the vessel), it represents a bright palette of strange colors. The best-known world producers of this glass are Venini или Barovier & Tosso, whose production can be found both in museums and gift shops.
Nowadays consumers became more particular about the art, and a choice of a vase became more than an ordinary purchase of household goods.
Soft “crystal” with a diamond facet in the form of rhombs (English firm Waterford, for example, ads in crystal weight silicon oxide) is again on the top of the interior fashion. Some firms have risked to experiment and were switched to design vessels (Leonardo, Ligne Roset, Kosta Boda), having received on an output of a vase-molecule or the vases similar to a children’s toy wood lark. Demand generates the offer.
Finally, one flower vase became an obligatory element of any house collection. Here master’s taste is shown to the full: you will not hide behind a bouquet anymore, it is necessary, that both the vessel, and a flower were on the top.

Some facts about Persian carpets

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Carpets are surprising works of art. Frequently we do not almost pay any attention to them, and meanwhile, any thing in the house should be on the right place, in fact we can create the present atmosphere of coziness and comfort only by the careful selection of subjects of an interior.

Recently a “sterile”, cold and rigidly functional hi-tech style in which any softness, heat and a coziness of carpets were not entered was dominating. Today we can observe the opposite process in architecture and design: the fashion comes back to a kind “olden times”, cozy eclecticism and modernist style, and to… carpets. From the recent aversion of carpets which were replaced with pictures on walls, and beautiful parquet on floors, the designers came back to carpets as a full element of a stylish interior. No one objects that a correctly chosen carpet is a “highlight” of any interior.

Today the most valuable and prestigious are the handicraft carpets. Such carpets today are perceived and appreciated not only as the subjects of use, but also as works of art which cost in the course of time only grows. As it was before, now these carpets mainly produced in the East. And the most valuable are the well-known Persian carpets come from Iran. These carpets are made only from natural materials: of 100 % silks, a clap or wool, or combining these materials. Besides at manufacturing the Persian carpets only natural dyes are used, therefore in the course of time, the colors of a carpet do not burn out, and get a noble softness of shades.

It is color of the nature, grasses, trees, and it brings you a feeling of confidence of and securities. However, surplus of green color “presses” and oppresses, it should not be too much in an interior. And even if you don’t like it, do not forget about plants - even a few greens in a room are a piece of a pleasure and a good mood.

Dark blue interior

It is color of the coldness and calmness. It gives to a room the refinement and nobleness. However, the surplus of dark blue makes premises cold and even gloomy. Therefore it should be counterbalanced by means of warm tones.

Yellow interior

Yellow color is usually associated with heat and coziness. This color fills any interior with hospitality and cheerful mood. If you are not a big fan of the yellow color, but dream to recover and warm the house, it is possible to use only bright accents in different parts of the room. It is well combined with green and red colors.

For Sale By Owner: Prepare Home For Show

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

When acting as your own real estate agent, it is imperative that you cover all bases adequately. You must have a for sale by owner home that is in excellent condition and ready to be shown to potential buyers. It is not difficult to prepare your for sale by owner home for show but it does require proper planning and a little bit of work on your part to ensure success.

The outside of your for sale by owner home is the first thing potential buyers will see so it is very important to make sure it is clean and attractive. “Curb appeal,” or the way your home looks from the outside, is what attracts potential buyers so if you spruce it up a bit, they will want to view the inside of the for sale by owner home.

A neatly manicured and well-kept lawn implicitly signifies a well maintained for sale by owner home. You should make a weekly habit of cutting your lawn while your home is on display for sale. Be sure to rake leaves and to sweep the sidewalks on the weekends when your house is to be shown. If you have shrubs and or trees, remove debris and dead limbs to make them more presentable. It is a nice touch to plant extra flowers for color or to add potted flowers to lighten up the landscaping.

If fences are in ill repair or need work, repair them and touch them up with stain or with paint. Put away lawn equipment, children’s’ toys, and any other outdoor items. Keep large pets with neighbors so they do not interfere with the showing of your for sale by owner home.

The inside of your for sale by owner home is next on the list to make presentable for showing. It has been proven that people buy homes that appear spacious, clean, and solid. Dark colors and clutter turn off most buyers, this means you must get rid of everything that you can possibly live without. A good rule of thumb is this, if you cannot see your baseboard, the room is probably very cluttered.

To get rid of unnecessary things you may have, you may donate them to a charity or have a garage sale. The larger items that you must keep can be placed in storage. If you will be painting your interior, use white or an off-white paint. You should also replace your light bulbs with brighter, higher wattage bulbs. Again, the look you are going for is bright and spacious. Be sure to clean everything thoroughly including carpets and mirrored surfaces.

Clean the oven and all appliances and be sure to polish any chrome fixtures. Be especially particular about ridding your home of any odors such as from smoke or from pets. Fix any loose doorknobs, repair any broken windowpanes or leaky windowsills. Be sure any light fixtures are secure and in good repair. Also, be sure to repair any leaky pipes and to reapply caulk as needed.

These general tips will get you started on preparing your for sale by owner home for show. It is a good practice to view the for sale by owner home as though you are the buyer and to be particularly hard on yourself so a potential buyer won’t have to be. If you are worried that you may overlook something, it won’t hurt to get a friend or neighbor to do a walk thru of the home and to critique your efforts. This will ensure a complete and thorough preparation and will boost the appeal of your home.

One of the largest furniture fairs in the world has been opened in Cologne

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

1200 firms from 60 countries have brought on it the samples which will be introduced in trading catalogues in the nearest future. It is curious, that inhabitants of Germany advance the entire world in their love to decorate and update an interior of their houses. During the year each German spends about 500 euros for internal furniture of the apartment, 370 of which are spent just on furniture.
Last tendencies
The design becomes more sophisticated. The dark tree with furnish from chrome and aluminium enters into a fashion. The nut, oak and exotic grades are on the pique of popularity. The leaders among light grades are the beech, an ash and a birch trees. It is obvious, that the grades of fruit trees will melt buyers hearts. The plum tree is alongside with already familiar pear and an apple-tree there.
Concerning the upholstery of the furniture the noble, sated paints are prevailed. These are the lilac or dark blue in every possible variation.
Beautiful and clever
The experts say that the accents are displacing. So, the kitchen turns to a certain center of an apartment, suitable not only for meal, but also for a dialogue while the applicability of the sitting room now becomes the “consumption of the maintenance” through means of mass-media.
The subjects of the furniture should be multipurpose. That is why at fair new conceptual forms will be presented in great variety. For example, “New Hybrids”- is a “clever” furniture - a sofa with the built in musical center or the flat TV as a part of a wardrobe.
You can see all this variety from January, 15 till January, 21st. at the International furniture fair.

Oh, those magic mirrors!!!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

The designers knowingly consider a mirror as the most interesting element of house decor. A skillfully picked up mirror can refresh even the most boring interior, giving to it a special unique style. It can be an imperceptible detail, and can set the fashion to all interior. The mirror is able to generate various spatial and light illusions, to hide lacks of the lay-out and to do many other things …

One, two, three! Be ready - the magic is starting!

In olden times the mirror was considered as the occult subject full of secrets and riddles and the set of superstitions has been connected with it. Today a mirror is not only a high-grade detail of the furniture of, but it is also the original design tool by means of which it is possible to correct some architectural, building lacks. For example, mirrors often use for creation of illusory light and spatial effects. So, if you hang up a mirror opposite the window, the room will get an additional illumination that is rather important for small dark premises.

The illusion of the expanded space is created by large mirrors - when the reflection of various subjects is visible from different points of a room. The mirror can double the width or length of the room (especially, in sitting rooms and bedrooms), but thus it is better to separate the borders of the reality and the “world behind the looking-glass”. For this purpose you should put any small furniture attribute or design near to such wall it can be a small sofa, an armchair, a padded stool, a coffee table, a beautiful floor vase, a floor lamp, the floor fixture in the Japanese style from a fabric, or a rice paper, a statue from the ethnic shop, etc.

Mirror fashion

The designers say that the frame is the most important part in a mirror which allows it to be a stylish ornament of the house! Today’s fashionable tendencies are the following: mirrors with frameworks from natural breeds of trees (a beech, a bleached oak, a nut), painted in various colors or covered by a usual transparent varnish, from copper and a brass, made in the style of an olden time are welcomed. The most important is that the mirror frame should follow the style of your house: somewhere it may be evident, allocating a mirror; somewhere it should be hardly noticeable and ascetic.

Some rules of decor which can’t be broken (Part 2)

Monday, January 15th, 2007

False statements
Don’t use white color - it requires a special care
Actually, white color always looks well in an interior. It refreshes the general decor; it visually expands the space and shades favorably many colors. While decorating the room choose white materials which can be washed, and fabrics which can be bleached. Make white covers on sofas, armchairs or pillows demountable so that they could be cleaned more often. The only things from what it is better to refrain are white carpets, especially if there are small children or animals in the family.
If you are not sure, than choose neutral colors
Neutral colors: beige, sand, grey, etc. - are really practically combined with any other colors and if you are not sure in your taste, it is better to adhere to neutral colors on the basic scale. And it is not obligatory to avoid black, white, terracotta colors and some shades of dark blue and green - they also can be neutral. So the term “neutral” does not mean “colorless”.
Everything should be combined with each other
Actually, a mixture of styles or colors is not so terrible, as it is usually presented. As freq such mixture is visible only to the professional. In the mixture of different styles the presence of the common line or detail connecting is highly desirable.
Round table requires a round table cloth
You can find nothing as boring as when all the details are ideally combined and correspond to each other. You can even put a triangular cloth (if it only looks unexpectedly and pleasant to you) on the round table.
There should be a sofa, an armchair and a little table in the sitting room
Try to avoid the standard set which necessarily “should” be presented in any room. For example, there should be a place to sit and a place, where to put a cup of coffee or a magazine in the sitting room. It doesn’t mean a sofa and a little table. It is possible to use a podium or a canapé instead of a sofa.
Don’t be afraid of experiments. Break the rules, but at the same time wonder: whether it is comfortable to me in this decor? Whether I can live with it? If the answer is affirmative then you have made a wonderful house.
